A baby girl just 10 days old was reportedly stolen this Wednesday in Marracuene district, Maputo province. Suspicion has fallen on a woman thought to be about 30 years old.
Pain and despair have overcome the family of Chanda, the baby girl who was stolen yesterday at around 11:00 a.m. in the Marracuene district headquarters village. Her sadness is so overwhelming that, when she started to relate the story, the baby’s mother could not control her emotions, and fainted.
After regaining some calm, baby Chanda’s mother said that the supposed thief had struck up an acquaintance with her in Marracuene hospital, where she had gone to have the new-born weighed.
On leaving the hospital, the alleged thief offered to carry little Chanda, since her mother did not feel well. And, oblivious to the woman’s true intentions, Lourdes handed over her daughter.
Even with her phone off and with no idea of the whereabouts of the woman who stole the baby, the parents are still keeping alive their hopes of getting their daughter, their first child, back.
The case is now under scrutiny in the Marracuene District Attorney’s Office.
