Nephew detained for “lending” his name to Nini Satar – report

Police in Maputo detained Sahime Mohammad Aslam on Monday after a false passport in his name and found in the possession of fugitive from justice Momad Assif Abdul ‘Nini’ Satar when he was captured in Thailand on 25 July last.

The man detained is the son of Farida Satar, Nini’s older sister, who also fled the country after being granted provisional release while answering fraud charges.

Sahime has been detained as part of the National Criminal Investigation Service’s operation against the network involved in the fraudulent issuing of a passport to Satar.

The arrest of Sahime Mohammad Aslam was expected to be formalised today, with the prosecution asking for his continued detention.

With the arrest of Satar’s nephew, the number of people implicated in the case increases to two.

Meanwhile, Satar’s imprisonment for alleged involvement in kidnapping cases remains to be formalised – the responsibility of the Maputo Judicial Court investigating judge.
