Mozambique: President Chapo begins working visit to Maputo city
RM (File photo) / Revolution Day, also known as Armed Forces Day, is a public holiday in Mozambique celebrated on September 25. It commemorates the day the Mozambican War of Independence officially started, in 1964.
About 10,000 of the 38,000 national liberation struggle veterans registered in 2015 are not yet receiving their pensions.
According to Radio de Moçambique, Horácio Massangaie, spokesman of the Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Combatants which has been taking place since Wednesday in Maputo, said that the sector intended to complete the process of granting pensions by 2019.
From 2015 to date, the ministry has allocated about 28,000 survivors’ pensions.
Massangaie admits that it is deplorable that the Ministry of Combatants has not yet completed the process of setting pensions, but says that citizens infiltrated as beneficiaries of former combatants’ pensions constitute a barrier to the completion of the process.
Massangaie announced that he would commence proof of life testing in October to address the issue.
The Mozambican War of Independence officially started on September 25, 1964, and ended with a ceasefire on September 8, 1974, resulting in a negotiated independence in 1975.
