Mozambique: Six people die in Nicoadala crash
The National Defence and Security Council (CNDS) has praised the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) for assuring public order and safety during the festive season.
Sitting at their 11th Ordinary Meeting, chaired by the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence and Security Forces (FDS), Filipe Nyusi, the National Defence and Security Council heard information on the security situation, including that in Mocímboa da Praia.
The CNDS acknowledged PRM officers’ performance, which had resulted in a quiet and orderly festive season throughout the country.
This body also analysed in depth the security situation in Mocímboa da Praia, and welcomed the actions of the Defence and Security Forces “for the continued stabilisation of public order and security”.
According to a press release issued by the body, the council noted with satisfaction that “the energetic action of the FDS had guaranteed the repression of the evildoers, allowing communities to return to their places of origin and the normal functioning of public and private institutions, as well as getting the life of the population in that part of the country back to normal”.
In October 2017, an armed group, whose origin and motivation are still unknown, staged attacks at police stations in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado province, an action that continued sporadically over the following months, with civilian targets also hit.
Finally, the CNDS urged the population to redouble their vigilance and report any action that might jeopardise public order, security and tranquillity in the country to the competent authorities.
