Mozambique: "We use theatre as a tool of struggle."

Niassa province, in the north of the country, from today hosts the 10th National Festival of Culture.
During the week, close to 3,000 artists from different all the provinces of Mozambique will give living testimony of the cultural diversity of the country, performing on several stages set up in Lichinga.
O País reports that the festival is already in financial difficulties, with the government only able to find 23 million of the 60 million meticais necessary to stage the event, the balance being made up through support from private companies.
Performing artists from Angola, Portugal and Sweden are also slated to take part.
“The event aims to value the national cultural heritage,” a press statement from the organisers reads.
Events will also take place in the Chimbonila, Sanga and Lago districts, under the motto “Culture Promoting Women, Identity and Sustainable Development”.
Artists from all over the country will compete the national ‘grand finale’, after having passed competitions in the localities, administrative posts, districts and provincial phases.
The last National Culture Festival took place in Sofala, central Mozambique, and gathered nearly 2,000 people for the opening event, including national and foreign artists.
