Seven members of the same family have died after allegedly consuming contaminated turtle meat in the Majuvi community, Memba district, Nampula.
The tragedy was made public this Tuesday by the provincial director of health in Nampula, Fernando Mitano, during the third ordinary session of the provincial executive council, extended to district administrators.
Fernando Mitano said that the health team that visited the place concluded that the death of these citizens was also associated with the consumption of a traditional medicine used in that region for the treatment of malaria.
“The victim’s symptoms included vomiting with foamy characteristics and sudden loss of consciousness, symptoms sometimes associated with the consumption of traditional medicine for the treatment of malaria, but there is a strong hypothesis that the meat consumed had been poisoned,” he said.
