Six individuals are being held by the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) in Nampula in connection with the attempted kidnapping that took place on the city’s Avenida 25 de Setembro on the 13th of this month, local news platform Vida Nova reports.
Speaking during the presentation of the group to the press, Manuel Arnaça, head of SERNIC’s investigation and instruction department in Nampula, said plans began to be hatched in August of this year.
Arnaça said that investigations had resulted in the arrest of six individuals, some of whom hail from the country’s capital. One of them is the owner of the vehicle, another a mechanic found with the vehicle, and the rest owners of the residences that would be used to hold captives and house the other participants and persons who received commissions..
“The owner of the vehicle is not from Nampula, but from Maputo,” Arnaça said.
All of the detainees deny the allegations.
ACcording to the Vida Nova report. he group includes “two white ladies”, who remained silent during the presentation to the press.
SERNIC says “it does not have wooden glasses” and is sure that these individuals took part in the failed action on the 13th. “What we find is that they have been here in Nampula since August preparing the scenario that took place on the 13th of this month. SERNIC has no doubt that they are involved,” Arnaça said.
According to the source, work is ongoing to recover the weapon used, plus other members of the group and the ringleaders themselves.
