Nampula province seeks funds to build Netia-Nacala-Porto road

A paved road linking the administrative post of Netia, in the Monapo district and the city of Nacala-Porto, in Mozambique’s Nampula province, will be built, provincial governor Victor Borges said recently.
The governor said his government was trying to raise funds to build the road, which is needed to reduce intense road traffic on that route.
Cited by Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias, Borges said it was necessary to make road traffic flow better between the city of Nampula and Nacala to ensure the safety of passengers and goods.
The construction of the Netia/Nacala-Porto road also aims to have a positive impact on tourism within Nampula province, which in recent times has been developing on Mozambique Island and the town of Chocas Mar in the Mossuril district.
Until the 1960s, transport of various goods, including sisal, cashew nuts, cotton and food crops produced in the districts of Monapo, Muecate, Nacaroa and Meconta to the port of Nacala was carried out through the link between Netia and Nacala-Porto.
