Mozambique: Cotur wins TAP Award as the best travel agency in Africa in 2024
Mozambique’s northern province of Nampula expects to receive around 20,000 domestic and foreign tourists during the Christmas and end-of-year season.
The coastal zone, comprising Memba, Nacala-Porto, Mossuril and Ilha de Moçambique districts is the tourists’ preferred destination.
At the moment, room occupancy is standing at 70 percent on the coast, but less than 20 percent in the capital, in the centre of the province.
The figures were provided by Agostinho Zacarias, provincial director of culture and tourism in Nampula.
“We have co-authored a welcome campaign with the hotel industry which we will roll out at the main air and road points of entry,” he said.
The sector has also scheduled the eight shows and fairs, such as the crab fair in Nacala-a-Velha and the shrimp fair last weekend in Angoche.
Zacarias says that the current peaceful climate has improved the tourism environment in the area , with people able to travel safely.
“Many people now travel by private or public transport without any anxiety. From January to October 2016 we welcomed 55,000 tourists, but this year, during the same period, we have already seen 86,000 arriving,” Zacarias added.
