The Governor of Nampula Province, Victor Borges, has announced that the results from the international investment conference of Nampula will only be
released in March.
According to the governor, the province needs approximately US$370 million in investment to finance the implementation of various projects in areas such as water
supply, electricity, roads, food security
and land use.
Governor Borges maintained that the outlook is positive owing to the many expressions of interest made by potential investors during the course of last year’s
conference.
According to reports, the investors were particularly interested in the implementation of alternative electricity sources. In terms of water supply, the
foreign investors were most interested in participating in projects aimed at strengthening water supply systems in urban centres.
The government proposes to provide at least 75% of the five million inhabitants with access to clean drinking water by 2020. It also intends to attract approximately US$42 million in investments for the construction of a dam along the Monapo River, plus an additional US$56 million for the improvement of the Meluli dam.
