It will take at least two days for circulation in the Nacala Corridor to resume after the rail accident in Meconta district in the early hours of this Friday, Pino Santos, administrator of the Nacala Corridor company at the Nacala Logistics group, has said.
Interviewed this morning, Santos said none of the crew on the two trains involved were injured, but were taken to a clinic for observation as a safety precaution before being discharged.
However, ‘O País’ spotted a broken piece of coupling, adding weight to the hypothesis that the first train had come apart. The lead part of the train went on normally, but the detached wagons ended up constituting the obstacle into which the next train ran.
Pino Santos declined to comment on the cause of the accident, saying that technical teams were investigating.
