The Muslim community in Cabo Delgado province is fragile as a result of the terrorism plaguing the region.
In an interview with Radio Mozambique, Sheik Aminudin Muhammad said that terrorism had prevented the Muslim population of Cabo Delgado from properly celebrating Eid Ul-Fitr, a moment of great importance in the Islamic calendar.
“The greatest victims of these terrorists are the Muslims themselves,” the sheikh said. “Muslims in Cabo Delgado have not been able to fast at will, nor have they been able to celebrate Eid Ul-Fitr as they would like. As a matter of fact, they are living the life of displaced people, the life of refugees, driven from their homes. Their homes and mosques are being destroyed. These [insurgents] are crooks and should be treated as such,” Sheik Aminudin said.
