On the occasion of International Museums Day, celebrated this year under the motto ““Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museum”, the Mozambican Railway complex in Maputo Central Station is today hosting the first edition of the Museums and Cultural Heritage Fair.
The fair brings together a series of events that aims to develop museums as a teaching platform, and aims to help students at all levels find in museums and related institutions didactic and interactive means to help them grow as citizens.
Museums Week also intends to help museums develop as spaces for the preservation and diffusion of cultural heritage, making them more attractive and competitive at SADC, PALOP and CPLP level, and more proactive in Mozambique’s development.
The event will offer a program of workshops, guided tours, audiovisual screening in different formats and music concerts.
The fair takes place in CFM Museum in Central Station with the participation of the Eduardo Mondlane University Art Gallery, the Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of Art, the Museum of Fisheries, the Mozambican Archive for Cultural Heritage (ARPAC), the National School of Music, the National Company of Song and Dance, the Mutumbela Gogo Theatre group, Teatro Avenida, the Municipal Council Central Library, the National Library, the School of Visual Arts and Macarte.
