Mourning, mixed with revulsion at losing a loved one, has overtaken the family.
Screams and calls for help were heard in the neighbourhood, but without effect.
The grandmother of the deceased told reporters how the family learned about what happened that night.
Three teenagers aged between 15 and 19 years old, along with two other fugitives, are being held at the 5th Police Station in Machava, but deny any involvement.
Police in Maputo province called for conflicts to be resolved through dialogue, not violence.
According to reports, two other young men at the scene fled to the province of Gaza.
