Mozambican diplomat Murade Murargy, executive secretary of the Portuguese-speaking countries organisation the CPLP, yesterday expressed confidence in the country’s ability to overcome its political and military crisis soon.
“I believe that this phase will be overcome very soon,” Murargy told reporters after a meeting with Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario during an official visit to the country.
Murargy said that the solution to the political and military crisis would come from Mozambicans themselves, and that the country needed stability in order to focus on economic development.
“Mozambicans are the ones who have to solve the problems of Mozambicans. Mediators are not the ones who have to come to solve [the problems]; this must be [done] through frank and open dialogue, so that the country can find a path to peace and devote itself to solving basic problems such as hunger and poverty,” Murargy said.
The CPLP executive secretary said that any outbreak of political instability in the organisation’s members was of concern, because “healthy CPLP members mean a healthy CPLP”.
