Residents of Munhava, in Beira city, Sofala, have confirmed that anyone diagnosed with Covid-19 is being threatened with lynching, and authorities say that consultations at health facilities in the neighbourhood by people with flu symptoms have fallen off, possibly as a result.
Our reporter in Beira went to Munhava on Friday and talked to residents, who confirmed the situation was indeed as outlined above.
Provincial Director of Health Fino Massalambane said that the authorities were urging Munhava residents to seek treatment for any type of illness, and that the health sector had mobilised teams to work with the population since last week.
