According to a local municipality source, André died suddenly in the city of Nampula, which he was visiting on official business.
The mayor collapsed during breakfast in one of the city’s hotels and was immediately rushed to Nampula Central Hospital but was certified dead on arrival. “We are currently awaiting medical examinations to determine the cause of death,” the source said.
Born in Muidumbe, Cristiano Patrício André was the first mayor of Mueda, a position he assumed after the 2013 municipal elections and occupied until his demise.
