Mozambique: Minister Saize appeals for 'unity, vigilance'
Renamo spokesman António Muchanga has told VOA that he does not know who is launching the attacks on vehicles in central and northern Mozambique that police have attributed to his party.
“I do not know who is launching the attacks but, given the conflicts in the country, it is a very complicated and unfortunate situation,” Muchanga said, adding that the government “may have information on the ground, but it can also be distorted information”.
Referring to the testimony of a man allegedly from Kenya who claimed to be fighting for Renamo, Muchanga said the story was a “farce”, and that his party “does not have men training in Kenya”.
Muchanga reiterated that his party would assume the government of the six provinces where it claims to have won the general elections of October 2014, noting that “March has 31 days”.
Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi has called his first Council of State since taking office in January 2015 for tomorrow, Wednesday, February 2, at a time when the country is experiencing serious political, military and economic difficulties.
