The Mozambican Attorney-General’s Office (PGR) has summoned former presidential candidate Venancio Mondlane for questioning on Tuesday morning.
The interrogation comes just a day after Mondlane returned to Maputo following visits to Portugal and Germany.
Cited in the independent daily “O Pais”, Mondlane said he does not know why the prosecutors want to speak to him, and he regarded the summons as “rather sinister”. Nonetheless, he planned to obey the summons, since he is willing to collaborate with the bodies of the administration of justice.
“I am ready to present my ideas and contribute to the society that we all desire”, he said. He added that he has personally presented many requests to the PGR since 2023 but has never received a reply.
“Now there is a speedy reaction the day after I have returned to the country”, Mondlane added. “But I’m not worried. I am ready.”
Whenever he left the country, he had informed the authorities, even when it was not obligatory to do so. “I am ready to face all challenges, known and unknown”, said Mondlane. “It’s part of the mission I have decided to accept”.
