The Bank of Mozambique and Euronet will announce in Maputo today the entry into operation of a new processing solution for electronic interbank payments used by the Sociedade Interbancária de Moçambique (Interbank Society in Mozambique-SIMO), within the framework of the unification of all payment platforms in Mozambique.

The new solution comes into operation about two years after a blackout in the SIMO network’s interbank electronic payment system affected 465,000 domestic and 14,000 international transactions, covering 600 million meticais in value daily and causing long lines at ATMs in almost all banks, except Millenium Bim.
