The Ministry of Science and Technology, Higher Education and Professional Training, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Human Development and Kamaleon productions, promoted an exhibition last weekend in Beira as part of a programme called “Creating Tomorrow’s Scientists”.
Fifty-four exhibitors from 12 schools and districts in Sofala province and universities participated in the event. The programme, which is being distributed to the country’s schools by the Community Tablet initiative, will later be used to stage competitions in mathematics and basic sciences.
During his speech at the event, Deputy National Director of Science and Technology Benjamim Langa said that such fairs not only served to spread the message of science, but also to create a taste for mathematics.
“Through these fairs, we hope to encourage the work of future scientists. We also call for the further development of research and innovation,” he said.
The Sofala provincial director of Science and Technology, Higher Education and Professional Training, Graça Ernesto, said the exhibitions were the result of research by exhibitors in various educational establishments.
“For this to happen, it is necessary to transform knowledge into a basis for combating poverty, and to transmit knowledge to communities in order to develop our country through the dissemination and research of science and innovation,” she said.
The exhibition, which was shown at Beira’s Casa dos Bicos, presented scientific research projects, innovative results of learning and consolidation of knowledge, but most of all, “lessons on how to be, make and build a future”.
