Mozambique: Elvino Dias Foundation to honour lawyer murdered a year ago in Maputo
Notícias / From left to right, the new members of the Secretariat with Filipe Nyusi: António Niquice ( substitutes Damião José), Helena da Glória Muando (substitutes Carlso Moreira Vasco), Agostinho Trinta (substitutes Sérgio Pantie), president of Frelimo party and president of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi, Chakil Aboobakar (substitutes Edson Macuácua).
Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party now has a new spokesperson and Secretary for Mobilisation and Propaganda.
He is Antonio Niquice, who replaces Damiao Jose in the post, after a reshaping of the Frelimo Secretariat at a meeting of the Party’s Central Committee on Friday, in the southern city of Matola.
Acting on a demand from President Filipe Nyusi that members of the Secretariat should dedicate themselves full time to Party activities, all those members of the Secretariat who also held positions in the country’s parliament, the Assembly of the Republic, or in the government, left the body.
Portfolios were then distributed among the members of the secretariat. The current division of responsibilities is as follows:
General Secretary – Eliseu Machava
Secretary for Mobilisation and Propaganda and Spokesperson – Antonio Niquice
Secretary for Organisation, Training and Cadres – Agostinho Trinta
Secretary for Administration and Finance – Esperanca Bias
Secretary for the Economic Area – Chakil Aboobakar
Secretary for the Party’s Social Organisations – Helena Muando
Secretary for External Affairs – Aida Libombo
Secretary for Parliamentary and Municipal Affairs – Jose Tomo Psico
At the end of the meeting, Nyusi swore the new Secretariat members into office, declaring that the Central Committee was convinced that they will do all in their power to achieve the goals laid down by the Party.
“Once again we have shown our maturity and we have reaffirmed the internal democracy which characterizes our party through a free, fair and transparent procedure”, said Nyusi. “Each of the voters (i.e. the Central Committee members) cast their votes in a free and conscious way”.
Nyusi told the Secretariat members that their tasks will require great commitment and dedication, if they are to be successful in their mission.
“The new members will join those already on the secretariat (Machava, Libombo and Tomo Psico) to consolidate a working team that is producing results”, he added.”Many challenges are awaiting you. One of the secrets for facing these challenges successfully is internal cohesion”.
Nyusi stressed that the Secretariat must be driven by a “sense of honour”. Frelimo, he declared. “must homour our word, our promises and our commitments”.
“When we presented our Election Manifesto, which was later transformed into the government’s Five Year Programme, we contracted a debt with the people”, he said. “We must do everything in our power to honour that debt”.
