President Filipe Nyusi will today address the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He will address world leaders this afternoon, sharing his views on how the world can find solutions to current global challenges.
Before that, the president will participate in the US-Africa business forum, co-chaired by the US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and former first deputy Mayor of New York and chairman of Bloomberg Philanthropies, Patricia Harris.
The meeting will discuss increased trade and investment between the United States and African nations and assess the progress made since the first forum, held in August 2014 in Washington. The meeting is expected to be attended by no less that 50 heads of state and government and over 150 high-level business executives.
Two years ago, President Obama announced that private US companies had made US$12 billion available for electrification programs in Africa, while a further US$14 billion would be channelled to sectors such as banking, construction and information technology.
The aid was justified by the need to create conditions for increased trade between the parties, American business people having reported that trade was not viable when it was not possible to maintain output because of unreliable power supplies.
