Members of Mozambique’s National Song and Dance Company (CNCD) have been in Rome since October 3, conducting an artist residency in coordination with Italy’s own National Academy of Dance.
The 20-day residency is the result of a memorandum of understanding between the Mozambican flagship company and Italy’s parallel Accademia Nazionale di Danza.
During its residency, the CNCD presents daily singing and dancing sessions to about 30 performers.
CNCD members teach marrabenta, ngalanga and other singing and dancing genres typical of Mozambique.
The residency is an opportunity to exchange expertise in the field of singing and dancing between Mozambique and Italy, allowing those involved to incorporate new elements into their creations while stimulating and valuing the art of both countries.
