Mozambican gold reserves appreciated by 27.1% in 2024, to almost 332 million dollars (290 million euros at the current exchange rate), according to data from the Bank of Mozambique that Lusa had access to today.
According to a previous report from the central bank, Mozambique held the same amount of gold reserves on 31 December 2023 as it did on the same date in 2022, of approximately 126,575 ounces, but which were then worth 230,391,423 dollars (200.8 million euros).
In 2023, these reserves closed at US$261,142,767 (€227.7 million) and in 2024, according to the most recent data from the Bank of Mozambique on reserve assets, “monetary gold” was worth US$331.9 million (€289.4 million).
Foreign exchange reserves consist of gold coins, bars or ingots, fine silver and platinum, special drawing rights, foreign currency and other assets denominated in foreign currency with guaranteed convertibility, the Mozambican central bank previously explained.
