The deputy vice-president of the National Commission of Elections (CNE), Meque Braz, is banking on better organisation in the 2018 and 2018 general elections avoiding injustices and consequent protest.
Speaking in Manica yesterday at the start of an electoral law training course for CNE and STAE staff in Gondola district, Braz said: “We cannot make mistakes anymore. The mistakes of the past must be forgotten. For now, we have to start working to establish what went wrong and make improvements so that the elections proceed without upset. In the past we had problems with the system, like the batteries in some devices and human error. We cannot allow a repeat of this scenario in the next elections.”
Braz said the training aimed to update all members Election Commission support organs on matters of electoral law so that the next elections would take place smoothly. “We have members coming Frelimo, Renamo, the MDM and civil society. We need to give them an update on the legal framework so that we all share the same ideas and have the same perception regarding electoral legislation,” Braz said.
Manica province has more than two million inhabitants in its 12 districts and sports five municipalities: Gondola, Sussundenga, Manica, Catandica and city of Chimoio.
