Representatives of electricity companies from the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) will meet from February 22-24 in Luanda.
The information is contained in a press release from the National Electricity Transportation Network (RNT.EP) hosting the meeting.
According to the note that reached Angop on Thursday, the meeting is part of the 46th Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) meeting.
The source adds that the meeting will assess the supply of electricity to meet the growing demand in the region and promote the interconnection of the region’s power systems.
The release further states that during three days, members of the various work sub-committees will learn about the structuring projects in Angola and analysis of the situation of demand and supply of electricity in the region.
Other topics on the meeting’s agenda include the challenges facing SAAP member countries in implementing projects, clean development mechanisms and other matters, it is said.
Meanwhile, the source says, the first SADC Power Fair in Angola will be held on the fringes of the 46th SAPP, with the participation of 40 exhibitors.
SAPP was established in August 1995 at a SADC Summit in South Africa during which the member states, excepting Mauritius, signed the Inter-Governmental Memorandum on the creation of a regional power pool.
The SADC energy ministers signed the Reviewed Inter-Governmental Memorandum on February 23, 2006.
SAPP member countries are South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, DR Congo, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, which are represented by their respective electricity companies.
It was established to facilitate the development of Southern Africa, through the interconnection of the electricity systems.
