Mozambique’s economic growth outlook in 2019 is “not very encouraging”

The outlook for economic growth in Mozambique in 2019 is “not very encouraging,” said the president of the National Statistics Institute, noting that a slowdown in the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) was observed between 2015 and 2018.
Rosário Fernandes, quoted by the AIM news agency, said that in the period from 2015 to the first quarter of the current year, compared to 2007 and the 2017 census, there was a regression in GDP per capita, which fell from US$458 to US$453.
The President of INE was speaking at the opening session of the consultation on the Household Budget Survey (IOF), held in Maputo, which aims to collect reflections, suggestions and recommendations for a greater representation of users throughout the Mozambican territory.
The IOF is due to begin in October after the general elections and will be preceded by a pilot survey, and training of surveyors began on Tuesday in the province of Maputo.
The pilot will be held in July and the main survey by the end of October, the results of which will be available in April 2021.
Household budget surveys are statistical operations carried out with households, selected by sampling, and also allow for the collection of on employment, unemployment, underemployment and tourism.
