Mozambique’s Balama graphite mine to restart production within the next three months

Australian industrial minerals and technology company, Syrah Resources, expects to restart operations at its Balama natural flake graphite exporting mine in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, within the next three months.
Having closed the mine since March 2020 due to COVID-19 and other economic factors, Syrah aims to commence production – taking into consideration current travel restrictions and COVID-19 regulations – and is motivated by supportive market conditions.
In order to restart operations, Syrah is focusing on rehiring staff, following the restructuring of its workforce last year as it sought to safeguard against declining revenues. With a processing capacity of two million tons per year of ore, which produces approximately 350,000 tons per year of graphite material, the restart of production is expected to increase jobs and fuel economic and industrial expansion.
