Six days after the reopening of land borders in the country, in the context of the relaxation of Covid 19 measures decreed by President Nyusi, the Machipanda border in Manica has not yet fully resumed operations for all categories of traffic.
The situation arises because the Zimbabwean authorities are still observing more restrictive Covid-19 countermeasures than Mozambique.
A spokesman for Migration Services in Manica said that the situation was having a negative impact on revenue collection and constraining the movement of people from Mozambique to Zimbabwe and vice versa.
Still at Machipanda, queues of trucks in transit to hinterland countries are now reaching up to four or five kilometres in length.
