Mozambique: INAMI presents bill on mining as part of public consultation - Watch

Mozambique’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, on Monday (05-09) met, on separate occasions, the Minister of Energy and Power Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Zhemu Soda, and the Deputy Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons of Equatorial Guinea, Santiago Eneme Nsuga.
At the meeting, the first during his working visit to Mozambique, Zimbabwe’s Minister Zhemu Soda expressed his country’s interest in participating in the various stages of development of the Mphanda Nkuwa Hydroelectric Project, and in guaranteeing electricity to feed the Zimbabwean mining industry.
Minister Carlos Zacarias expressed his government’s openness to this paradigm, at a time when the country is looking for partners in the Mphanda Nkuwa project, which will increase Mozambique’s energy potential and that of the whole southern African region.
To that end, Minister Zacarias instructed teams from Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) and the Mphanda Nkuwa Office to join technicians from the National Energy Company of Zimbabwe (ZESA) and members of the governments of both countries for technical meetings to enable the deepening of mechanisms which could boost the export of energy to Zimbabwe from the Temane and the Mphanda Nkuwa power plants between 2024 and 2031.
At his meeting, Equatorial Guinea’s Deputy Minister Santiago Eneme Nsuga conveyed his country’s interest in learning about Mozambique’s experience on the design of the legal framework, techniques and lessons relating to the development of the mining sector.
Mozambique and Equatorial Guinea have cooperated in the area of hydrocarbons since 2017 through a memorandum of understanding currently being reviewed as the basis of a cooperation agreement.
The Minister of Energy and Power Development of Zimbabwe is visiting Mozambique until the 9th of September, with several meetings and visits to undertakings on the agenda.
In turn, the Deputy Minister of Equatorial Guinea Santiago Eneme Nsuga held the meeting with Minister Carlos Zacarias , as part of a visit to the country during which he participated in the 57th edition of FACIM.
