A 25-year-old woman was found dead after being raped by unknown individuals at Machava Stadium. The body was discovered two days after the crime – yet another case of violence against women in Maputo province.
The victim, who was attending her third year of Public Administration Degree, saw her dreams interrupted near the Machava Stadium.
She had told her family that she was leaving downtown Maputo for her boyfriend’s house, returning home only after that. She never arrived.
After some time, the family called the victim’s boyfriend, who said he had said goodbye to the victim near the stadium.
The body was found two days later.
Witnesses say the young woman lived near the crime scene, and that murder preceded by sexual assault was a regular occurrence in the area.
The victim’s boyfriend has been interviewed by the police.
