Mozambican businessman Yassine Monteiro Nunes married Princess Sibahle of Eswatini in Matutuine district, south of Maputo, in a ceremony full of pomp and circumstance, marked by the traditions of the neighbouring kingdom.
Hundreds of Eswatini citizens participated in a delegation that witnessed the marriage in the traditional manner of ancient Swaziland, through a ceremony called Umtsimba, which took place at the new sports facilities of the Bank of Mozambique in Matutuine.
The Swaziland Times Sunday edition quotes King Mswati as saying that his wish is to see all his daughters “in happy marriages”, noting that only God has the power to ensure that this wish comes true.
The king shared these moving comments as he commissioned Princess Sibahle’s Umtsimba (traditional wedding delegation) at Ludzidzini Palace on Thursday evening. He said Sibahle “paved the way for others to fulfil their wish” to marry and be happy.
“It’s been a long time since we witnessed such a beautiful traditional ceremony within the royal family and I thank God and the late kings for remembering us. It’s my wish to see them in happy marriages but everything becomes a reality, according to God’s plan,” he said.
The king reminded Princess Sibahle that respect remains the culture of the royal family, so “she must respect her husband” and her in-laws.
“Once you get married, you must never think that you have an alternative of coming back here, you now belong to your husband and in-laws. Your good behaviour there will create a good name for the entire royal family,” said the King.
Princess Sibahle was accompanied by her brothers and senior members of the royal family, including Defense Principal Secretary Prince Sicalo, appointed MP Prince Lindani, Defense Chief Officer Prince Hlangabeza and Natural Resources Minister Prince Lonkhokhela, among others.
At the ceremonies in Matutuine, the most notable figure in Mozambican politics was former President Armando Guebuza.
Yassine is the son of Nelson Mário Monteiro Nunes, CEO of the National Institute of Land Transportation (INATRO), who previously served at ANE and at the former INAV.
