Since its creation, Xiquitsi has been a remarkable platform for social inclusion, learning and socialization, where children, teenagers and young people begin a journey in the world of music.
This journey has been possible with the collaboration of artists from South Africa, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, China, Spain, Finland, France, England, Israel, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Uruguay and Venezuela, who have helped make the project so versatile.
Several ‘popular music’ bands and artistes have worked on the Xiquitsi project: the Brothers Willy and Aníbal, Banda Kakana, Gabriel Chiau, Hortêncio Langa, Deltino Guerreiro, Stewart Sukuma, Dilon Djindji, Xixel Langa and Lenna Bahule.
In the same creative spirit, Xiquitsi has set to music pieces by great Mozambican and Portuguese-speaking writers, namely Paulina Chiziane and Mia a Couto, and used the voice of Calane da Silva to sing poetry.
Xiquitsi currently has around 200 students, playing the violin, viola, cello, double bass, oboe, clarinet, percussion and singing solo and in choirs.
