The completion of the construction works on the diversion near the bridge over the Luchesse River, on the road that connects the districts of Majune to Mavago, in the province of Niassa, is scheduled for the second half of this month.
The forecast is from the provincial delegation of the National Roads Administration (ANE, IP) in Niassa.
The works are focused on the landfills and the construction of the mortared stone abutments, with a span of approximately 21 meters, over which the mobile bridge provided by the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) was launched this Monday (3), which restores the connection between the two districts, which is currently interrupted.
At this moment, the concrete is waiting for it to cure while the embankments and the construction of the wing walls at the abutments are being completed, with the opening of traffic scheduled for March 15, 2025. The Majune – Mavago road allows the transport of goods and people to and from Mavago.
The Mavago district is an area of high agricultural production, with emphasis on corn, beans and tobacco. It has more than 40 thousand inhabitants and this is the main route connecting the district with other parts of the country.
Estimated at around six million meticais, the bridge will have a load limit of 3.5 tons. It is worth remembering that part of the structure of the bridge over the Luchesse River collapsed on November 29, 2024, due to the passage of an overloaded truck.
