In the town of Luenha-Sede, Changara district, Tete province, the Changara Women’s Development Association (ADEMUCHA) is redefining the power of community organizing. In a context marked by poverty and financial exclusion, this nonprofit has mobilized Savings and Loan Groups (SGPs), creating real bridges to economic and social inclusion.
In March 2024, ADEMUCHA received 250,000 meticais in financing from Gapi, distributed among three GPEs—ADEMUCHA, AFUMAC, and CHUMA CHATU—involving 70 members, over 75% of whom are women. The funds were invested in commerce, agriculture, and small businesses, with a 5% monthly interest rate.
The result? A 100% successful reimbursement in February 2025—living proof of commitment, transparency, and effective management.
“Before the loan, I only had a small tomato stand. With the money I received, I bought seeds and tools, increased agricultural production, and today I can guarantee food and school fees for my children ,” shared one of the beneficiaries.

This intervention by Gapi, which was carried out within the scope of the Credit Line for Rural Businesses, whose objective is to finance rural entrepreneurs within the target value chains of the Rural Enterprise Financing Project (REFP), through the involvement of the formal financial sector in granting financing through refinancing.
These interventions have a transformative impact, including
(i) financial autonomy: families generate more income and create new jobs;
(ii) social inclusion: women previously excluded from the formal financial system now have access to credit;
(iii) community benefits: visible improvements in food, education, and local reinvestment; and
(iv) a multiplier effect: trust between groups strengthens new cycles of savings and credit.
ADEMUCHA’s experience, in partnership with Gapi-SI, shows that simple savings and credit models, when combined with discipline and community organization, not only transform lives but also strengthen local economies and inspire new possibilities.
