The Namaacha Wind Farm project in southern Mozambique is to start its topographic and geotechnical research phase to study the location, the venture’s co-financier, the African Development Bank, said on Tuesday.
“The project intends to hire technical services,” which will check “the topographic and geotechnical” conditions of the land where the wind farm is to be built, the bank said in call for consulting proposal tenders.
The wind farm, with an expected capacity of 120 MW, is an EleQtra initiative, a company that operates in various countries and that has experience in the energy area in sub-Saharan Africa.
“The geotechnical studies will include drill holes to determine the composition of the soil in probable areas to place turbines, substations and other important components of the infrastructure,” while other studies should cover “the mapping of topographic characteristics and rainwater drainage patterns.”
The resulting report should provide “sufficient details” for future project suppliers, the bank said.
