Tete provincial authorities have confirmed the presence of a toxic substance in one of the water sources in the village of Missaua, Changara district.
Confirmation of possible poisoning comes from laboratory analysis conducted by a multi-sectoral team involving technicians from the provincial health and public works departments.
Due to the chemical properties of the substance in the water, the decision was made to close the source, which could affect more than 3,500 people.
The Provincial Director of Public Works in Tete, Nelson Tsuze, announced that routine tests would continue to monitor the presence of the toxic substance.
