The government has decided to raise water tariffs. For Maputo, Matola and Boane, the reference rate per cubic metre will rise from 51 to 64.80 meticais per cubic metre, an increase of 13 meticais per cubic metre.
In the city of Beira, the reference tariff of 47 meticais will increase to 57 meticais. In Nampula, the reference rate will rise from 53 to 64 meticais and, in Manica, Gondola and Chimoio the rate will increase to 50.24 meticais per cubic metre.
For Chongoene, Limpopo and Xai-Xai, the reference rate per cubic metre will be 53.44 meticais. In Pemba, Murrébuè and Metuge, water will cost 59.44 meticais per cubic metre.
The adjustment comes under the Law on Public Water Supply and Sanitation Services (LAAS), enacted this Tuesday (21), and ordered published by the President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and, consequently, resolutions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6/2024 that readjust consumer tariffs to be implemented by the water and sanitation infrastructure administration system operator.
