Mozambique: Chapo visits cyclone-hit areas

The water levels in Mozambique’s northern river basins are still rising following heavy rainfall across almost the entire region in recent days, according to the Northern Regional Water Administration (ARA-Norte).
A bulletin shared by the ARA-Norte director, Carlitos Omar, indicates that between yesterday and today, rainfall raised water levels in the Ligonha, Meluli, Natôa and Lúrio basins by between .98 and 1.55 metres.
This led to changes in the filling of the reservoirs that supply water to Nampula province, especially the Nampula dam, whose level rose by 0.08 meters.
Rising water levels in basins can result in greater water capture in dams, but storage capacity does not change, so efficiency in water usage continues to be recommended.
