Mozambique wants to export sugar to Angola

Exports of sugar produced in Mozambique to Angola is one of the main issues due to be discussed by technical teams from both countries, said the Mozambican Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

José Pacheco, who did not elaborate on the model to be adopted, recalled that Mozambique has a sugar surplus and said that the technical teams would look at issues related to price and logistics so that “if feasible, we can initiate cooperation at this level.”

The two ministers noted that the governments of the two countries want to boost bilateral trade relations, so that “they can begin to flow more quickly.”

The head of Mozambican diplomacy was speaking moments after a meeting in Maputo with his Angolan counterpart, Manuel Domingos Augusto, who on Friday began a three-day working visit to Mozambique.

In addition to trade, Pacheco added quoted by Portuguese news agency Lusa, Mozambique intends to benefit from Angola’s experience of the extractive industry.

“Angola has a lot of experience in the area of hydrocarbons, and we intend to benefit from it, given that the extractive industry in Mozambique has been experiencing rapid development,” added Pacheco.

Manuel Domingos Augusto’s three-day visit also served to prepare the State visit of Angolan President João Lourenço to Mozambique, on a date yet to be announced.
