A waiver of the requirement for a visa for entry into Mozambique covering 29 countries took effect this Monday (01-05), the Interior Ministry has announced.
“On May 1, 2023, the decree that exempts nationals of 29 countries from the requirement to present a visa when travelling for tourism or business comes into force,” the document reads.
The need to register on the Internet 48 hours before boarding – a formality foreseen when the exemption was first announced, in March – is also “temporarily suspended”, it adds.
The communique states that, as of Monday, those concerned “are authorised to travel to the Republic of Mozambique without prior registration and must, upon entry, pay a fee equivalent to 650 meticais [€9.20]” and submit the three documents usually requested.
These are a passport or equivalent document valid for at least six months, a round-trip flight ticket (for those travelling by air) and proof of the place of accommodation are required.
The countries covered are: Portugal, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Canada, China, South Korea, Ivory Coast, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Spain, United States of America, Finland, France, Ghana, Indonesia, Ireland , Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Russia, Senegal, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine.
The visa exemption allows “multiple entries into the national territory for a period of stay of 30 days, starting from the date of the first entry”, the decree published in the Boletim da República on March 31 reads.
The period of stay may be extended for a further 30 days, upon sufficient justification being submitted to the migration services.
The measure aims to “stimulate tourism and the business environment” in the country.
