Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, in the capacity of special envoy of President Filipe Nyusi, held a meeting this Friday in Pretoria with the South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, Radio Mozambique reports.
At the meeting, Verónica Macamo explained in detail the process of holding elections in Mozambique, the functioning of the electoral justice system and the current situation of post-election violence in the country.
President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed South Africa’s solidarity and readiness to support Mozambique in overcoming the current situation.
The head of Mozambican diplomacy, in turn, also expressed solidarity with the South African people over the deaths of children due to disease transmitted by allegedly contaminated food.
The two leaders also addressed the situation of illegal mining, at a time when hundreds of illegal miners, including Mozambicans, remain trapped inside abandoned mines in Stilfontein, in South Africa’s North West province.
