Rejection of vaccination in some districts threatens immunization targets for another 680,000 children against polio in the southern province of Gaza. The health sector is promoting awareness and community dialogue with more than 87 families to reverse the situation.
Governor of Gaza, Margarida Mapandzene, said that raising awareness about vaccination is undertaken so that families and communities are aware of the benefits and respect the vaccination schedule.
“We appeal to parents, caregivers and society in general to take advantage of the vaccination services available, for the prevention of all vaccine-preventable diseases, in routine vaccination at the health unit, as well as in campaigns, such as the polio vaccination campaign, which will take place between June 2 and 6, in all districts of the province,” Governor Mapandzene said.
Mapandzene said that children under 10 years of age would be vaccinated in their homes and en masse at schools, churches and other places.
Mulássua Simango, Director of Health in Gaza, explained that the Manjacaze district was chosen to start the vaccination campaign because there are already 87 families in the area who meet the certification criteria for this purpose.
