The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, reaffirmed on Wednesday (30-04) in Maputo that the country intends to consolidate bilateral relations with the United States of America (USA).
Chapo was speaking during the audience granted to the US Ambassador to Mozambique, Peter Hendrick Vrooman, who is bidding farewell to the country after completing his mission.
According to Ambassador Vrooman, the US administration will strengthen the partnership between the two countries, in the search for new opportunities in the private sector and US investments in strategic areas, citing the example of gas, health and infrastructure.
“There are 50 years of cooperation and partnerships between Mozambique and the United States of America,” Vrooman said.
He stressed the importance of the US investing almost five billion dollars in the natural gas sector.
Regarding the meeting with the Mozambican head of state, Vrooman said: “We talked about the possibility of continuing some projects, the importance of the US President’s AIDS Relief Program (PEPFAR), a program that saves the lives of many people in the country.”
Vrooman guaranteed the continuity of this initiative, which has benefited many Mozambicans.
“I also mentioned the continuation of some programs that we have in the area of humanitarian assistance, which continues, but we also talked about the challenges,” he said.
The ambassador encouraged the Mozambican Head of State in his optimism, vision and resilience. “I think his optimism is very important, as the national anthem says, stone by stone building the new day. And this idea, I think we will work towards this and we are together.”
The source highlighted the importance of the Mozambican private sector in working together with the American private sector and other countries, as a basis for sustainable economic growth.
“Investment in roads, bridges, and other infrastructure areas is very important for the country’s economic growth.”
Ambassador Vrooman said that his mission as a diplomat was over, but relations between the two countries would continue.
