Mozambique: Two suspects arrested over assault on pregnant teenager in Manica – O País

Police have detained, in the district of Mossurize, Manica, two individuals suspected of assaulting a pregnant 16-year-old girl with a machete.
The defendants claim they are innocent.
The victim, Paonei Francisco, is still in hospital, after losing her baby and her eyesight following the assault.
Doctors in Chimoio say the teenager should be transferred to Maputo for more specialised care and psychosocial support.
Paonei was attacked on the 8th of June as she was on her way to school, where she attends Grade 7.
According to the teenager’s family, she was with two sisters when she was approached by two young men with machetes.
