Manica province has joined the list of regions with confirmed cases of mpox in Mozambique, with two new diagnoses recorded in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 31.
According to the National Directorate of Public Health’s Information Bulletin for the period July 11 to August 4, the two positive cases were identified in the districts of Chimoio and Machaze, both in Manica province. Two tests were conducted in the previous 24 hours, and both came back positive.
In addition to the new confirmed cases, 13 new suspected cases were identified: six in Niassa province, six in Maputo city and one in Gaza province. These samples are still awaiting laboratory confirmation.
Since the outbreak began in July, 153 samples have been analysed and 148 contacts have been traced. In the 24 hours previous to the public health bulletin, 62 new contacts had been traced.
In total, 58 suspected cases are being monitored, and no deaths have so far been reported.
Of the 31 confirmed cases nationwide, 28 are in Niassa province (92.3%), two in Manica province, and one in Maputo province.
Currently, 18 positive cases are under clinical monitoring.
The Ministry of Health urges the public to redouble preventive measures by avoiding physical contact with infected people or those with suspected symptoms, frequent washing of the hands, and not sharing personal items such as clothes or towels.
