The truce agreed between President Filipe Nyusi and the Renamo leader, Afonso Dhlakama, will be extended for another two months, Mozambican newspaper O País says, citing a source close to the process.
Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama has scheduled a press conference for this morning, at which he will confirm the extension of the truce. The understanding reached is due to progress in talks between the government and Renamo.
According to the same source, the suspension of military hostilities will be extended until the first Assembly of the Republic session, at which, it is hoped, the main points raised by Renamo will be discussed.
Local media also reported that Mozambican president Filipe Nyusi would return to talks with Afonso Dlhakama and say that a temporary ceasefire is positive.
Renamo demands that it govern the six provinces where it claims to have won most votes in the 2014 general election.
