Two Chinese persons died early on Thursday and two others were injured in a fire that broke out in a commercial appliance shop near Tete’s municipal market.
According to data from Tete National Public Safety Service, the fire was detected at around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday (May 11) in the warehouse, where the four also lived.
The injured are receiving intensive care at Tete Provincial Hospital.
The fire, thought to have been caused by a short circuit, destroyed the store, the warehouse and residence and all merchandise, including bicycles, mattresses, audio equipment and television sets of various sizes.
The fire was only finally extinguished around 10.30 a.m. on Thursday. Exact losses are still to be evaluated.
Tete city has experienced many fires costing lives and causing material damage over the last two years, driving the Provincial Police Command of the Republic of Mozambique to increase from two to four the number of rapid intervention vehicles in the Tete and Vila de Moatize municipalities.
