At least twenty thousand families in Matola, Boane, and Ressano Garcia remain without electricity due to road blockages caused by protests, preventing Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) teams from reaching affected areas to repair the damages.
The power outage resulted from fallen poles that succumbed to heavy rains and strong winds that hit the city and province of Maputo on Monday. In a statement released yesterday, EDM explained that the movement of technical teams responsible for restoring the damaged poles is being obstructed by protesters, which may leave families without power for the next three days.
The company urged protesters not to hinder the work of the teams and to protect electrical infrastructure, emphasizing that acts of vandalism harm the services provided to customers.
Additionally, EDM has reinforced safety measures for the rainy season, warning of the risks associated with damaged equipment. It advises disconnecting appliances and taking preventive measures when dealing with electrical installations.
